PLN IP Services Enhances Cogen EV 2.5 Electric Motor Conversion Capabilities at PLN IP UBP Priok, Supporting Sustainable Energy Transition
Jakarta, October 5, 2026 - PLN Indonesia Power Services (PLN IP Services) continues to develop innovations to support the energy transition through Cogen EV 2.5, a technology for converting fuel-powered motorcycles into battery-powered electric motorcycles. This innovation was implemented through a Socialization event for Converting Fuel-Powered Motorcycles to Electric Motorcycles, conducted by the PLN IP Services Cirebon Workshop Team at PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) Priok Generation Business Unit (UBP), as part of efforts to support the Company Performance Rating Program for Environmental Management (PROPER) assessment, particularly in terms of energy efficiency.
During the event, the PLN IP Services Cirebon Workshop Team introduced Cogen EV 2.5, covering the process of converting fuel-powered motorcycles into battery-powered electric motorcycles, the operating principles of electric vehicles, and the benefits of using Cogen EV 2.5 in supporting energy efficiency and reducing emissions. This activity served as a way to implement PLN IP Services' innovation while also sharing technical expertise and experience in electric vehicle development.
Cogen EV 2.5 is PLN IP Services' innovation in developing solutions for converting conventional vehicles into battery-powered electric vehicles. This technology development leverages the company's expertise in engineering, maintenance, and technology development to deliver an electric vehicle solution that can be implemented in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
The development of Cogen EV 2.5 is supported by the PLN IP Services Cirebon Workshop, one of the company's facilities for the development and implementation of electric motor conversions. In addition to supporting the technical process, the Cirebon Workshop also serves as a platform for developing human resource competencies in the electric vehicle sector, including through educational activities and knowledge sharing with various parties.
PLN IP Services' commitment to developing electric vehicle conversion technology has also been recognized through an award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) for its successful implementation of the Fuel-Based Motorcycle Conversion Workshop to Battery-Based Electric Motorcycle Program. This award recognizes PLN IP Services' contribution through Cogen EV 2.5 to promoting the use of cleaner, lower-emission energy.
Furthermore, Cogen EV 2.5 has received certification from the Ministry of Transportation as a workshop for the installation, maintenance, and inspection of electric motor drive system installation equipment for motor vehicles. This certification enhances PLN IP Services' readiness to provide electric vehicle conversion services that comply with applicable regulations and standards.
PLN IP Services President Director, Hari Cahyono, stated that the development of the Cogen EV 2.5 is part of the company's efforts to deliver innovations that provide tangible benefits for the energy transition while simultaneously opening up opportunities for competency development and new businesses.

By converting fuel-based motorcycles to electric motorcycles, we are not only providing technology but also promoting energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and developing competencies in the electric vehicle sector," said Hari Cahyono.
He added that the involvement of the PLN IP Services Cirebon Workshop Team in the activities at PLN IP UBP Priok demonstrated how the company's developed competencies and innovations can be implemented in real life to support sustainability and energy efficiency programs.
"Through this outreach activity, we also want to share technical knowledge and experience regarding electric vehicles. Going forward, we will continue to develop our capabilities and expand collaboration in the utilization of electric vehicle technology," he added.
The outreach activities at PLN IP UBP Priok also serve as an educational platform regarding the benefits of electric vehicles, particularly in supporting energy efficiency and reducing emissions. Through these activities, participants gained an understanding of alternative energy uses and the application of more efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.
In addition to implementation within the PLN Group, competency development is also a crucial part of the Cogen EV 2.5 journey. Through the Cirebon Workshop, PLN IP Services introduced electric vehicle technology to several vocational high schools (SMK) in the surrounding area. Education was provided to students and teachers to introduce the technology and the electric vehicle conversion process, while also encouraging human resource readiness for the development of the electric vehicle industry.
