PRESS RELEASE NO. 046/RELEASE/PLNIPSERVICES/2026
Maintaining Power Plant Reliability and the Environment, PLN IP Services Involved in the Development of the Karimunting Coastal Boundary
Bengkayang, September 7, 2026 — PLN Indonesia Power Services (PLN IP Services) is involved in the development of the coastal boundary area around the Kalbar-1 PLTU in Karimunting Village, Sungai Raya Kepulauan District, Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan (September 3). Together with PLN Indonesia Power and PT GCL Indo Tenaga, the project involved the development of the area and the planting of coastal vegetation along approximately 800 meters and an area of approximately 8.6 hectares to maintain the coastal area's function as a natural protection zone.
The event was also attended by Bengkayang Regent Sebastianus Darwis, PLN Indonesia Power Services Director of Operations Amir Murtono, PLN Indonesia Power Corporate Secretary Agung Siswanto, PLN Indonesia Power Renewables President Director Hendry Asdayoka Putra, PT GCL Indo Tenaga President Director Sun Haoming, along with staff, PLN Group officials, local government officials, the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), and representatives from the community and relevant stakeholders.
PLN IP Services' involvement in this event aligns with its role in carrying out Operation & Maintenance (O&M) for the West Kalimantan-1 Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU Kalbar-1), which includes managing the operation and maintenance of the power plant to maintain operational reliability and safety.
PLN IP Services Director of Operations, Amir Murtono, stated that environmental awareness is part of the company's responsibility within the plant's operational area.
"PLN IP Services plays a role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and optimal operation and maintenance of the West Kalimantan-1 Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU Kalbar-1). Therefore, we are participating in the coastal boundary improvement activities in Karimunting as a form of concern for the environment surrounding the assets we manage," Amir said.
The area's development is carried out through the planting of coastal vegetation, which is expected to maintain the boundary's function as a natural buffer zone for land areas and coastal ecosystems. This is relevant given the dynamics of shoreline change in Karimunting Village.
Based on the study "Analysis of Shoreline Change Using the DSAS Method in Karimunting Village, Bengkayang Regency," at the same location as the West Kalimantan-1 PLTU (Power Plant) area, shoreline retreat was recorded, with a maximum shift reaching 43.40 meters during the period 2011–2020.
Amir added that the sustainability of the area requires a collaborative effort after the planting activities are completed.
"The sustainability of the area doesn't stop with planting. Maintenance and community involvement are crucial for vegetation growth and the preservation of the area. We hope that the collaboration established can continue so that its benefits can be felt in the long term," Amir added.
In addition to environmental activities, the event also included the distribution of donations to children from Tanjung Gundul and Teluk Suak Hamlets in Sungai Raya Kepulauan District. This social activity is part of the community's concern for the surrounding area of the West Kalimantan-1 PLTU.
Through its involvement in these activities, PLN IP Services continues to fulfill its role in the O&M management of the West Kalimantan-1 Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU Kalbar-1), taking into account operational reliability, safety, environmental, and social aspects. This step is part of the effort to ensure responsible power plant management, while ensuring that the power plant assets coexist with environmental sustainability and provide benefits to the surrounding community.
