Tanjung Selor, December 17, 2025 – PLN Indonesia Power, in collaboration with PLN Indonesia Power Services, is presenting the Tanjung Selor Gas-Fired Power Plant (PLTG) with a capacity of 1 x 20 MegaWatts (MW) as a strategic step to strengthen the reliability of the electricity system in North Kalimantan. The Tanjung Selor PLTG is a real solution to meet the growing need for electricity supply and strengthens the electricity system in the capital of North Kalimantan Province, located at the end of the system. This plant is expected to support community and government activities, as well as drive sustainable regional economic growth.
The Tanjung Selor PLTG is the result of the relocation of Unit 2 of the Sambera PLTG in East Kalimantan to the Tanjung Selor System in North Kalimantan. This relocation was carried out by PLN Indonesia Power Services as the main implementer, in collaboration with PLN Indonesia Power, and began in January 2025. This step was taken as a strategy to optimize generation assets for more effective utilization and in line with the needs of the regional electricity system.
All relocation stages were carried out in a planned and integrated manner, encompassing civil works, dismantling the power plant, handling and transportation of key equipment, reassembly, and testing and commissioning before the plant was ready for operation. This project involved hundreds of personnel and was successfully completed with zero accidents, demonstrating PLN IP Services' strong commitment to safety and quality.
The inauguration of the Tanjung Selor Gas Power Plant (PLTG Tanjung Selor) was marked by the signing of an inscription by the Director of Gas Plant Operations at PLN Indonesia Power, and witnessed by the President Director of PLN Indonesia Power Services, the Vice President of OMP V of PLN Indonesia Power, the Manager of PLN Indonesia Power UBP Mahakam, the Manager of PLN UP3 North Kalimantan, the Manager of PLN Indonesia Power Services East Kalimantan, the Manager of the Berau Power Plant (PLTU Berau), and the Manager of the Tanjung Selor Gas-Powered Plant (PLTMG Tanjung Selor).
During the event, donations were also distributed to orphans as a manifestation of the company's social responsibility and commitment to the community surrounding the power plant's operational area.
In his remarks, Hari Cahyono, President Director of PLN Indonesia Power Services, emphasized that the successful relocation of the Tanjung Selor Gas-Powered Plant demonstrates PLN IP Services' readiness to play a strategic role in the national power generation sector.
"Today's inauguration of the Tanjung Selor Gas-Powered Plant is a significant milestone for us. The relocation of the power plant from Sambera to Tanjung Selor was completed through well-planned and collaborative work from the initial stages until the plant was ready for operation. We are grateful that the entire process proceeded smoothly and safely, achieving zero accidents, as a result of the dedication of the field team and the full support of PLN Indonesia Power and all stakeholders. Moving forward, PLN IP Services is ready to operate the Tanjung Selor Gas-Powered Plant reliably to strengthen the North Kalimantan electricity system and deliver tangible benefits to the community," said Hari Cahyono.
Furthermore, Purnomo, Director of Gas Plant Operations at PLN Indonesia Power, expressed his appreciation for PLN IP Services' professional, solid, and solution-oriented performance throughout the entire relocation and construction process of the Tanjung Selor Gas-Powered Plant.
"The relocation of the Sambera Gas-Powered Plant (PLTG Sambera) to Tanjung Selor is a strategic achievement for which we should all be grateful. I express my highest appreciation to PLN IP Services for their hard work and dedication in completing the relocation and construction of the Tanjung Selor Gas-Powered Plant. This project not only strengthens the reliability of the electricity system in the capital of North Kalimantan Province, located at the very edge of the system, but also demonstrates the capabilities of PLN IP Services' personnel in managing the overall power generation project," said Purnomo.
The Tanjung Selor Gas-Powered Plant (PLTG Tanjung Selor) is now directly operated by PLN Indonesia Power Services, ensuring reliable, safe, and sustainable management of the plant. By implementing both the relocation and operation of the plant, PLN IP Services affirms its position as a strategic company in maintaining the reliability of the national electricity supply.
